Carnegie Library Renovation

Carnegie Project Update

March 23rd, 2012 by Julie Sharkey

The renovation of Carnegie is underway and will continue through the summer. Projects include the reopening of the main entrance, replete with Diana statue, and the renovation of the second floor Reading Room, which will be returned to library use.  The reading room tables and chairs will be refurbished and table lights replaced with a streamlined model that has 6-8 outlets in the base. The library service desk will be relocated adjacent to the Reading Room, along with current journals and a new books display. The surrounding corridors will be upgraded with new lighting, flooring, ceilings, and walls.

The first floor “pit” will be converted into two classrooms on the same level as the rest of the floor.  A third classroom, a tiered 90-seat auditorium, is also planned but may not be completed this summer. Renovations at Carnegie are scheduled to continue over several fiscal years and include new restrooms, a new elevator, and a computer lab.

Because of the noise and disruption that will result from construction, the Science and Technology Library and the Mathematics Library will both be closed from May 12 through August 5th. Items needed from either library may be requested at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of Bird Library; they will be retrieved and available for pickup at the desk or delivered to faculty offices.
